There are wines that do not accept being caged. Wines that are not content to follow the rules. In Tuscany they call them Supertuscan. In the world they call them legends.
In the 1970s and 1980s, when Chianti's specifications imposed tight boundaries, some producers chose to rebel.
But rebellion does not mean destruction: it means returning to beauty, reconnecting with the purest essence of a wine capable of speaking for itself, without forcing, without compromise.
They chose new, freer paths: barriques instead of barrels, using pure Sangiovese when it was forbidden, or meeting it with Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, vines that some called "international," but which, come to think of it, found a home here first.
The Etruscans, and then the Romans, brought these grapes from Tuscany to Gaul, long before they became French by reputation.
It was, after all, a return to their origins.
Thus were born bottles that at the time could not even bear the DOC, classified as mere “Table Wines.”
Yet, they were already masterpieces.
Today names like Sassicaia, Tignanello, Ornellaia, Masseto are absolute icons, sought after all over the world, and many others from every corner of Tuscany are excellent expressions of Supertuscan.
Supertuscans are the children of an act of courage: they dared to challenge the order, but to restore wine to its true beauty.
They are Tuscany speaking with a new voice, combining the ancient character of the land with a broad, international, eternal breath.
A sip of Supertuscan is not just tasting: it is an encounter with history, it is listening to the beat of the earth changing its skin, it is proof that when the heart leads the hand, beauty always finds its way.
